SRK, Akshay, Ajay muse no more

Working with your favourites is an old truth in Bollywood. So what makes some of our directors drop their lucky charms after having worked with them film after film. Some justify their choice saying that the script demands it; some believe that their favourites don’t suit the particular role. Filmfare lists few director-actor duos who chose films over friendship

    Karan - SRK

Karan Johar - Shah Rukh Khan

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and My Name Is Khan, Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan have been the perfect combination. However Karan Johar with his fifth venture, Student Of The Year, got three young newcomers onscreen. We can understand that the film required fresh and young faces but a cameo with Shah Rukh Khan would have only added to the fun. Karan’s favourite Kajol shook a leg in a song in the film, but SRK was completely missing in action. Moreover Karan Johar recently confirmed that he would be directing Ranbir Kapoor in his next but there is no news about King Khan yet. We are waiting for this duo desperately!

    Rohit - Ajay

    Rohit Shetty - Ajay Devgn

Rohit and Ajay together have created films that have enjoyed mammoth success. The Golmaal series, All The Best, Singham and Bol Bachchan, this director - actor duo has entertained audiences to the core. However this Eid, Rohit Shetty's film, Chennai Express will have Shah Rukh Khan in lead. What’s more it’s been produced by Red Chillies Entertainment. However Devgn and Shetty will be back with Singham 2.

    Sajid - Akshay

    Sajid Khan - Akshay Kumar

Sajid Khan’s first three entertainers included Akshay Kumar. However when Sajid decided to remake his favourite ’80s film, Himmatwala, the director choose Ajay Devgn for the lead. The film bombed! Now his next film Humshakal has Saif Ali Khan and Riteish Deshmukh in lead roles. Will Sajid be able to prove himself this time around without his lucky charm!

    RGV and his muse

Ram Gopal Varma – Urmilla Matondkar, Antara Mali and Nisha Kothari

Ram Gopal Varma and his muses can go down in the history of Indian cinema.

    Urmilla Matondkar

    Films: 9
Right from Rangeela to Ek Hasina Thi, Urmilla has been RGV's favourite. Moreover Urmilla has given some of her best performances with RGV as in Rangeela, Bhoot and Satya. Till one day he moved on…

    Antara Mali
    Films: 6
After Mast, Antara Mali soon caught RGV's eyes. She was the next Urmilla for him as seen in films Miss Mali, Naach, Road, Darna Mana Hai, Gayab... But Antara was not able to create the same magic that Urmilla had.

    Nisha (Priyanka) Kothari
    Films: 6
In 2005 Nisha stepped into Bollywood with a small role in Sarkaar. Soon Ram Gopal Varma made a film starring her in a lead role, James. The film sank and the director made the film again, with the same storyline and the same actors title Shiva. In spite trying his luck hard, Nisha couldn’t shine. She went to do Darna Zaroori Hai, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag and Go with RGV which bit the dust at the box-office. RGV gave her one more push with his supernatural thriller, Agyaat in 2010 where she changed her name to Priyanka Kothari. The film met the same fate and RGV gave up on his muse.
