  Mirch', directed by Vinay Shukla, is a delicious idea that unfortunately doesn't translate into a sumptuous film. 'Mirch' has moments of great fun, thanks to credible performances by Raima Sen and Konkona Sen Sharma as sexually liberated women who're unapologetic about their libidos. The film is enjoyable also for it's fresh take on women's emancipation, and for the cunning manner it plays the gender reversal card. But alas, much of it seems disjointed when viewed as a whole. I'm going with two-and-a-half out of five for director Vinay Shukla's 'Mirch'. A stronger male lead and some tighter editing might have turned this into a crackling film. As it stands now, it's as appetizing as a half-cooked meal!

  The garbled end and the misconstrued tenor of the film do act as a deterrent. Even as the women seem to be enjoying themselves with their unbridled expression of their sexual needs, the film tends to view them as the traditional not-to-be-trusted temptress. Overlook that and you can enter a world where women indeed are full-bodied flesh and blood characters. Both Raima and Konkona are a treat. All his four stories have a delightful and cheeky charm to them.you have a film that holds your attention. But not completely....

  MIRCH, which director Vinay Shukla refers to as "a celebration of womanhood", narrates four separate stories based on issues of women emancipation and also dabbles with gender equality in a relationship. It's a *** comedy with generous doses of wit; not a serious take on feminism. Again, it is erotic in parts, but not vulgar. We've seen lots of films dealing with male sexuality, but MIRCH deals with women's libido and that too in a funny way. Final word? MIRCH has two stories in the first half [great] and two stories in the second [disappointing], while the fifth one, which binds all the earlier tales, is a downer as well. Eventually, it falls short of expectations!

  Mirch is a **** idea that doesn’t quite come to fruition. Inspired from sources as varied as the Panchatantra and Boccaccio’s Decameron, writer-director Vinay Shukla strings together four stories focusing on the complicated, fraught, deeply painful and yet life-sustaining games that men and women play with each other. ***, lies, disguises, deviousness and tears are the weapons at hand and women, in one story literally, are on top.Sadly, Shukla can’t maintain this when he moves to contemporary times. The modern day stories are also clever but they aren’t crafted as well as the first two. Eventually then, despite some good moments and smart writing, Mirch isn’t the spicy romp it could’ve been. I’m going with two and a half stars.

  Two of these stories are set in ancient India while the other two are set in Mumbai. But they share a common theme. Women are the smarter ***. They are also skillful liars who think on their feet. Men are generally suspicious, don't take life too seriously but when they do, don't think with their brains. And over thousands of years this fact has remained unchanged. The stories are recreated in a spirit of pure mischief. But let's hope the feminists don't come looking for you, Mr Shukla.Mirch has its fun moments and a few laughs. With a lighter treatment it may have been a real rib-tickler.
