Isi Life Mein is exactly and precisely what you’d expect from it. Nothing more, unfortunately. The film’s female protagonist Rajnandini (I kid you not, that is her name!), played by newcomer Sandeepa Dhar, is a throwback to Bhagyashree’s character Suman in Maine Pyar Kiya, but without the mischievous spunk. Like her, the film too takes itself way too seriously, and therein lies its flaw.I’m going with two out of five for debutant director Vidhi Kasliwal’s Isi Life Mein. It’s hard to relate to the film’s impossible idealism or it’s one-dimensional leads. Watch it if you’re a sucker for those archaic family melodramas!

ISI LIFE MEIN tries so hard to be cool as well as a perfect family film in the same breath, but what comes across on screen is a lifeless fare. The love story doesn't work, neither does the paarivaarik portions. The culprit, you guessed it right, is the written material yet again. In terms of screenplay, ISI LIFE MEIN is structured on the lines of HUM AAPKE HAIN KOUN. The story barely moves in the first hour, but the film changes gears during the second half. Frankly, you expect a dramatic twist in the tale, but nothing happens.Final word? A major letdown! On the whole, ISI LIFE MEIN lacks the Rajshri stamp. It tries so hard to be cool, but ends up falling flat on its face.

Isi Life Mein does have an interesting premise and tries to present the other point of view. The film tries to say that modernity isn't synonymous with sin and metro kids are sorted out too, despite their strange dress sense and stranger lingo. But somewhere along, the intention gets all mixed up. This holier-than-thou attitude could have been tolerable if our puritanical lady had shown some spunk at least. This apart, the film unfolds as one long play rehearsal and doesn't seem to move forward after a point. The relationship between the big city boy and the small town girl is confined to an exchange of smiles and smiles and some more smiles: too many cold exchanges between the two debutants. Wish there had been some spirit too in this well-intentioned film that hopes to bridge the traditional versus modern divide.

Isi Life Mein is no different from any other Rajshri film. It is clear that there have been a lot of inputs from the director's famous uncle Sooraj Barjatya. But there is no denying the fact that the director has made a sincere attempt. The first half of the story is breezy and doesn't bore you. It's the second half where the story starts to drag. Towards the end, a ballet is performed which is choreographed beautifully but unfortunately it's too stretched. The movie has its own highpoints but it's pretty much like watching Balika Vadhu for two hours. It may find it hard to draw audiences into theatres, also showing Tees Maar Khan and Toonpur Ka Superrhero.

The initial minutes of first time director Vidhi Kasliwal's ISM gives the impression that one is watching a daily TV soap on the big screen. It's only when RJ moves to Mumbai that the narrative picks up. The first half is a breezy. It's post the intermission that the film crumbles. ISM isn't exactly a pathetic film and has its moments. But they are not enough to hold the feeble script together. Not exactly full of life, ISI LIFE MEIN turns out to be a mediocre effort in the end.
