What we can see with our is what is visible to us . Whenever there is obstacle we cant see .

The visual image becomes opaque or completely unseen by our eyes . Smoke , dust , water , fog , smog

are responsible for causing disturbances to our visual perception . When light falls on the above factors ,

it gets spread out everywhere and due to multiple refractions visibility is lowered . Earlier ship captains detected visibility of their path by

focusing on the horizon nearby . In modern times , devices called transmissometers  are brought in the market .

Their main function is to measure the the diffraction of the light beam by focusing a laser towards a detector set a few distance away .

The detector measures the bounced back light to give an accurate measure of visibility . Also in some other set-ups ,

sensors are placed just off the beam track to measure visibility .
