For possibly the nth time in recent memory, Vinay Pathak returns to play the everyman in director Saurabh Shukla’s slice-of-life drama Pappu Can’t Dance Saala, which flirts with the issue of migrants struggling to make it in Mumbai.There are some charming moments between the leads. Unfortunately, however, the script meanders in its final act to focus on the relatively inconsequential subplot of Dhupia’s sudden career upswing…and here the film has lost you. I’m going with two out of five for director Saurabh Shukla’s Pappu Can’t Dance Saala. Too bad they didn’t spend more time hammering out a better script.

Saurabh Shukla has the track record of making films that have interesting concepts and the same can be said of PAPPU CAN'T DANCE SAALA. This time, the talented actor/director narrates the story of a small town guy adjusting to the lifestyle in a metropolis. Also, Shukla integrates the odd couple track in the plot to make it more authentic.So does it work? In parts, yes. PAPPU CAN'T DANCE SAALA is unlike a Saurabh Shukla film. This time, to quote him, he's gone 'commercial', aiming for the mass audience. PAPPU CAN'T DANCE SAALA shows promise at the start; the character of Vinay Pathak specifically seems straight out of life. But PAPPU CAN'T DANCE SAALA slips in its post-interval portions. The promise that it showed initially dries up in this hour.So does it work? In parts, yes. But, in the end, PAPPU CAN'T DANCE SAALA remains an ordinary watch!

The film takes an interesting look at the lives of all the small town aspirants who come chasing their dreams to Mumbai, mega city, carrying the baggage of their native culture with them.It's a refreshing film which keeps you involved with its sensitive portrayal of two lonely souls trying to find succour in an alien city. Interestingly, the film takes a balanced view and doesn't end up passing judgements on the polarised cultures of big and small towns. Both have their positive and negative points, states director Saurabh Shukla. And rightly so.Watch it. You won't get bored.

Pappu Can't Dance Saala is Saurabh Shukla's third directorial venture. The plot focuses so exclusively on the romance between the couple that it reduces the other characters, be it the society secretary or Vidhydhar's colleagues, to caricatures. Some crisp dialogue and witty repartee saves the first half of the film, but post-interval the usual preachiness takes over and its one big yawn. You've had your fun initially, now it's time for the value education lesson.Pappu Can't Dance Saala is an average film with some decent performances but it is an honest effort as compared to the recent flood of no-brainers

What’s Good: The realistic comedy; performances of the actors. What’s Bad: Repetitiveness of the drama; the lack of a believable conflict in the second half. Verdict: Pappu Can’t Dance Saala is an entertainer but only upto a point. It will work to an extent in a few multiplexes but that’s not enough to fetch returns.

The actors cannot be blamed for a shoddy script riddled with clichés and stereotypical lines portraying city dwellers as being rude, insensitive and overall ill-mannered.Apart from some well-choreographed dance practice session by Longines Fernandes and Neha Dhupia there isn’t much working for Pappu Can’t Dance Saala.

This movie is fundamentally flawed. There is a plot, but the premise is weak. Also, the so-called sub-plots don't really add up to the whole picture, making it an exercise in futility. This story could have worked if the casting was on track. Vinay Pathak does not suit the role of a 30-year-old. His character (Vidya) comes from Benaras. He works as a medical representative and has to bear the brunt of his noisy neighbor Mehak who is a back-up dancer in Bollywood looking for her big break. Rajat Kapoor as a choreographer too is a mismatch. He looks more a painter than a dancer! Just getting friends to be a part of a film is not going to work. Film-making is business and in business there are no friends!

Pappu Can't Dance Saala revolves around Vidyadhar Acharya (Vinay Pathak), who has just shifted from Benares to Mumbai and Mehak Malavde (Neha Dhupia), who is a chorus dancer and knows how to survive in the city of dreams. Mahek and Vidyadhar are neighbours and later due to unavoidable circumstances, they turn roommates.The story is way too predictable and dragged sequences further take away the zeal from it. There are moments which showcase emotions, but all of it seems repetitive and Pappu Can't Dance Saala fails to differ. Though all the performances are commendable, the repetitiveness makes it a boring affair.Neha Dhupia shocks you with her confidence and the way she carries her character. Neha-Vinay chemistry gets a thumbs up. And, the final word- you won't miss much if you miss this one. Catch it if you having nothing to do this weekend.
