HOW TO MANAGE STRESS AT WORK

  • Stress is pretty normal at work. But managing stress is another thing to handle. The way you handle stress may affect your work ethics, as well as your personal life. It is not uncommon for working people to take home the stress they went through at work and this may lead to strained relations.  In a fast-paced life like ours, workplace stress is now recognized as one of the most common health problems among the employed sector.

Underlying causes are combination of demands at work and other external influences. Pressures, deadlines, traffic to and from work, cyberloafing, overtime work, conflicts with co-workers, money and family problems, among others, add up to a stressful day at work.

Stress can both be physical and mental, depending on the kind of work you have. However, the good news is, while stress are found everywhere, there are numerous strategies to prevent it.

    1. Manage your time. Set your goals according to priority. Be aware of the deadlines to avoid cramming. Planning in advance will surely save you from the hassles of stress. Your family matters must not get in the way of your work. Thus, different time management should be applied when it comes to that.

    2. Take a mini-break. Companies usually allow mini-breaks or coffee breaks. Make the most out of it by chilling a little bit. A short walk will be good for your circulation and gives you the chance to clear your mind. Stretching and body movements help to stimlate blood flow while also reducing tension, fatigue and stiffness.

    3. Get enough sleep. It is advised to go to bed early so you can have enough sleep. Getting enough sleep that your body needs will help your body be rejuvenated to deal with stress at work.

    4. Maintain a healthy body. A good immune system is what you need to protect yourself from the unhealthy effects of stress at work.  Drink plenty of water to hydrate and eat the right kind of foods to give you enough nutrients.

    5. Relax and take some leave off. Taking some time off from work, even at least on an annual basis will help you avoid exhaustion and burnout. It will also help you strengthen your bond with your family and friends, thus creating a more happy outlook in life.

Managing stress is never easy. But with the right attitude and mindset, you can accomplish so much and still be at your perfect state.
