In a report made by CNN on January 29, 2014, Nintendo accordingly reported an operating loss of 1.6 billion yen or $5.3 million for the last nine months ending December 31, 2013. When asked, Nintendo said profits have buckled due to weak global sales of the gaming console, especially after prices were slashed to attract buyers. It will be recalled that earlier, Nintendo has issued a profit warning after disappointing software and hardware sales in the busy end-of-year season. The other reason is the stiff competition with rival devices Microsoft Xbox and Sony’s PlayStation. In addition, it is said that Microsoft and Sony have turned their gaming consoles into integrated, computing devices, and new models of the devices released late last year were hot demand. With this depressing loss, CNN also added that Nintendo said it expects to record a 35 billion yen or $335.2 million operating loss for the fiscal year ending in March which is a significant drop from the 100 billion yen or $957.7 million profit previously forecasted.
Nintendo is a Japanese multinational consumer electronics company with headquarters in in Kyoto, Japan. It was founded on September 23, 1889 and is known to be the world’s largest video company.
