  Marriage is an inviolable social institution. There is no such thing as a perfect marriage though. Rather, it is a lifetime work in progress. It is a two-way process since both husband and wife must iron things out to make their marriage work. Nonetheless, there are few simple tips to make your marriage successful.

  
  1. Talk. Both should talk things over. It is improper to just assume things. If there are some doubts or issues clouding the relationship, both should be willing to sit down and reach a compromise.

  2. Listen. Since marriage is a two-way process, both must learn to listen to each other. Before you explode into senseless rage, you must first learn to listen and weigh matters carefully before you make your judgment.

  3. Forgive and forget. Both must accept that marriage is not always smooth sailing. No one, not even any of them, is perfect. Hence, they must be ready to forgive the other’s misgivings and shortcomings. Hatred not only destroys the relationship. It also destroys one’s perspective of life. The earlier you learn to forgive and forget each other’s mistakes, the easier you can smooth things out.

  4. Accept. Remember that when you decide to marry someone, you did not just marry his good side but his bad side as well. So, accept his person, his weaknesses and flaws. Be with each other during low moments and inspire and commend each other for every job well done. In that way, you learn to grow together.

  5. Trust God. Once you make God as the center of your marriage, you will never go wrong.
